Tributes, Dedications, and Rememberances2002Here's what some previous guests had to share about Marty!
Jan 15, 2002 - 23:30 - From: wburles@polarnet.ca when Iwas a young kid,and even later Marty Robbins was a favorite at our home. We played his records all the time. I soppose our favorite was el Paso, but Devil Women was a good one. When ever I think about somebody who could really sing. I think of Marty Robbins
Jan 30, 2002 - 21:47 - From: rebradley@olivianc.net I was only 13 at the time I saw this "wonderful entertainer" hit the stage at the Northern Nash Senior High School Auditorium in Rocky Mount, N.C. . He was there with Freddy Heart, Little David Wilkins and Nancy Rowe. I have been influenced greatly as an aspiring artist myself by the music and all around greatness of the best voice in country music. The show was in 1978 and I can still see him on that stage with Bobby, Don, Kats and Jack Pruett on guitar! What a great memory to have of one of the people who "paved" Music Row. It is really sad to see "radio" ignore True-GodGiven Talent for the sake of money! It is my hope that his music and that of other "Greats" will live forever as it does in my heart and mind!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the music and the wonderful memories Marty.
Mar 1, 2002 - 15:37 - From: wkellogg2003@yahoo.com Country Muaic will miss you.
Mar 6, 2002 - 09:11 - From: crockas@dmci.net I was just a child when I saw Marty at our county fair.... maybe 11 or 12 years old...but I will never forget him. He was so funny and so wonderfully nice to everyone! I remember after he was done singing, he stayed right where he was, he didn't disappear back stage. He talked to everyone and signed pictures and things and just acted like one of us. At that age, I was so enthralled that a famous person like him could/would take the time to just talk and laugh with common people! I am still happy with these memories today at the age of 34....I grew up with his music, I continue to listen to his music and I can't wait to see him again....He was truly a gift from God. :) Thank you for such a page as this, that we can read about and remember him for what he was...a wonderful person!
Mar 20, 2002 - 11:45 - From: juneattwood@trimwood.fsnet.co.uk JUST REDISCOVERD MARTYS MUSIC .FANTASTIC VOICE AND SONG WRITER.VERY VERSATILE.
Mar 21, 2002 - 23:03 - From: oltymer@earthlink.net I think there aren't any left... like my two favorite heros: entertainers, western style singers, versatile talent and all around nice personalities of the entertainment field...I'm talking about Marty Robbins and Roy Rogers- Both possesing unique voices and singing styles, preserving and portraying our western heritage like no others in song and even film. The have both left a legacy and have notched their mark in the gunbelt of our fond memories that will never die. Happy Trails pardners and thanx for the memories, I'll never forget you.
Mar 30, 2002 - 08:31 - From: kathykcs@yahoo.com Marty was my hero, I always will think of him with respect and love. He will never know how much he unknowingly touched my life and brought out the best in me. A talented songwriter and wonderful singer, but most of all a good soul. He is a memory that will never die and I will never forget him or his sunshine smile.

Apr 28, 2002 - 20:19 - From: brink@rkymtnhi.com My daughter was 5 years old and a huge Marty fan. I took her to a concert in Minneapolis that also had Merle Haggard on the bill. I of course was WAY up in the rafters so I took Nikki down to the stage so she could see him up close. We had no camera (darn!)but he looked right at her winked and waved. She was so thrilled! At the break between acts, Nikki and I were at the souvenier table (for some reason there was just Merle Haggard stuff)the drummer from Merle's band came up and talked to Nikki, he asked her what her favorite Merle Haggard song was and they would play it for her. She smiled at him and said "El Paso". Merle did not sing it for her.
May 5, 2002 - 20:50 - From: SHERLYNNONE@AOL.COM Many memories of this multitalented man...wonder if he knows how he touched the lives of his fans. One song you may want to include alongside 'My Woman...' is "She's Made of Faith'....I played them back to back once on the radio station for a friend who was down in the dumps after back surgery. She cried, but in a sentimental way, knowing that she was loved and thought about.....I'm sure many such things happened as a result of his music. No words can aptly express what this man has done for the world. I thank God, first of all, then of course, the beautiful Marizona for allowing him to share his talent with us. Thanks to Ronnie and everyone else who allows his music to continue to live on....Marty...hope to see you one day up there and hear you sing in person again! Luvu Marty! SML

Jul 16, 2002 - 00:17 - From: preske1@juno.com I remember as a kid from the 80's, going to my grandma's house. She had a huge floor model record player. The only album I liked from her collection was Marty's album, "Gunfighter ballads and Trail songs". I remembered Marty's low, peaceful voice and sometimes I would fall asleep to them.I never forgot his songs and when my grandma died, I would listen to the album at my dad's house.I am 26 and a couple years ago, I remembered those songs and I wondered if I could get them on cd,well, it was given to me as a Christmas gift! I still treasure Marty's songs and beautiful, spiritual voice.May Marty Robbins live on in everybody's heart!

Jul 18, 2002 - 22:50 - From: bob-hendrickson@hotmail.com my love for marty robbins came from my fathers greatlove for for his music...i at first was not a country music fan, but i began listening after my fathers untimely and early death and realized the greatness of the music and became a true country music fan due to marty's great performances and great songs ,it opened up a whole new world of music to me, i had the great honor of seeing one of his old race cars at texas motor speedway and even though the sign said dont touch, i couldnt help but to touch the seat on the car that marty had driven...i also obtained an autograph on a demo record album from an antique store in dublin, texas, which i have since authenticated and know it to be the real thing...marty will always be dear to my heart and left a legacy to be carried on by the "real" songwriters and performers of our time such as rodney crowell, radney foster, waylon jennings, roy orbison, and many others,we love you marty and always will...bob hendrickson and family

Sep 6, 2002 - 04:02 - From: richarda1@chartertn.net I am writing on behalf of my mother who has always been an avid Marty Robbins fan. In the 1950s my great aunt Nancy Jane Delk owned a tavern in Indianapolis Indiana where Marty performed. My mother recieved a record player for her birthday from Marty Robbins. He had written a song titled "Martha oh Martha". I can't find a copy of this song. If anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated. My Mother enjoys seeing all the pictures and reading the information that is shared in the website. Marty will live on in our hearts and memories.

Marty would come into the drug store and attempted to take my mom out. My mom didn't take his offer up because he was an entertainer. However, my mom and her girlfriend wound go and see Marty when he would play on weekends just across the Salt River at the ballroom.

Nov 8, 2002 - 20:17 - From: Tina from Illinois I was lucky enough to see Marty several times as he toured across the midwest. I have many fond memories of those days, lots of wonderful pictures and some great Marty stories. One of the sadest days of my live was when I woke to the terrible news that he had passed. I had fallen asleep listening to WSM radio, they had been giving fans updates on his condition. It seems like yesterday. My parents were Marty fans and that's probably how I was introduced to his music. There will never be another Marty Robbins. Thanks for the wonderful website.
Nov 20, 2002 - 14:55 - From: Ken I met Marty Robbins at O'Hare airport in Chicago, IL sometime before 1980. He was on his way from Las Vegas to Nashville and had to change planes in Chicago. I was able to get his autograph, but I am sorry now I didn't ask him if I could talk with him awhile. You just never think that this might be the last chance you will ever get. Anyhow, I have always placed Marty in my top three country stars even though he was versatile enough to sing other types of songs. Country music lost a superstar when Marty died.

Dec 29, 2002 - 12:22 - From: Rog I remember in about early 1982 or maybe '81 I heard a song late one night on our local [Charleston SC] radio station, WEZL. They played a song called "Big Iron". I'd never heard it before, and to my knowledge I'd never heard that voice before. It was great, not just because of a cool song and good voice, but because the song told a story, very rare at a time of drinking/love/lust etc. songs. This was good stuff, and I was just a kid. Annoyingly enough, the yutz that was dejaying that night never told us who sang this song. Sometime later I was doing an 8th grade paper on country music and I found an obscure reference to this song and it's singer, Marty Robbins. I became a fan because of a song heard much earlier and a reference in a book. That was 1982, and we already know what happened next. I was at our family "lake house" when I found out, my dad heard it on the radio on his way there the same day. Sometime later, while still in the 8th grade, I had a tape collection of his music [maybe I got it for my birthday the next January] anyway, we had a test on The Alamo, one of the songs on that tape was the theme song to the movie of that event. I studied for that test mostly by listening to that song and singing [very low and very off key] to myself. Example: Question: How many men fought at The Alamo: Answer: [forgive me if this is a little off] "Col. Travis, Jim Bowie something I don't remember, Davey Crocket someone else who I don't recall, and 180 more." 184. Ok, that's not entirely verbatum, but considering how badly I usally did in school, I thought it was pretty darn creative, and I passed. Just wish I had a chance to say this to him, from what I understand, he'd love it.
